Abstract

This study aims to describe the role of the experimental learning model in improving students’ critical thinking skills in science learning. The research employed a descriptive qualitative method conducted at SMP Negeri 4 Jember with seventh-grade students as the subjects and one science teacher as the interview informant. Data were collected through observation, teacher interviews, and student worksheets to identify the learning process and students’ responses during experimental activities. The results indicated that the experimental learning model effectively encouraged students’ active participation, analytical skills, and scientific attitudes such as curiosity, cooperation, and responsibility. Students became more confident in expressing ideas, analyzing experimental results, and drawing conclusions based on evidence. The findings show that the experimental learning model plays a crucial role in enhancing critical thinking skills and making science learning more meaningful, interactive, and student-centered.
