This study aims to identify and describe the types and sources of learning barriers experienced by students in the topic of growth and development in living organisms. The research was conducted with ninth-grade students at SMPN 6 Jember using a Likert-scale questionnaire to map their level of understanding, interest, and learning experiences. The analysis shows that learning barriers arise from two main sources: internal and external factors. Internal factors include difficulties in understanding biological concepts, limited reasoning abilities, and low interest in reading science materials outside of class. Meanwhile, external factors are reflected in the limited variety of teaching methods, insufficient visual media, and the dominant use of lecture-based instruction. Despite these challenges, students responded positively to the use of real-life examples, teaching aids, videos, and practical activities, which they felt helped clarify the concepts. These findings highlight the need for more interactive and visually supported learning approaches to make the learning process clearer and more meaningful for student.
