Authorship Criteria
The Jurnal Manajemen Pendidikan Islam Darussalam (JMPID) is a scientific journal that publishes research results, conceptual studies, and scientific developments in the field of Islamic education management. In order to maintain academic integrity and publication quality, the journal has established an authorship criteria policy as a guideline in determining an individual's eligibility to be listed as an author of a scientific article. This policy regulates authorship requirements, author contributions, the order of writing names, the responsibilities of the main author and corresponding author, acknowledgement of contributors, the use of artificial intelligence, changes in authorship, and the handling of alleged violations of authorship ethics. This policy applies to all authors submitting manuscripts to the Jurnal Manajemen Pendidikan Islam Darussalam (JMPID) , both sole authors and co-authors, from universities, educational institutions, Islamic boarding schools, government agencies, community organizations, and other institutions.
The determination of authorship in the Jurnal Manajemen Pendidikan Islam Darussalam (JMPID) is based on the following principles.
1. Real contribution
Author status is given to individuals who make intellectual and substantive contributions to research or the preparation of scientific works. The inclusion of names should not be based solely on academic position, structural position, seniority, personal relationships, or ownership of funding sources.
2. Honesty and transparency
Each author must convey authorship information accurately, including identity, affiliation, role in the research, and relationships with other authors.
3. Scientific accountability
Each author is responsible for his or her contributions and must cooperate in ensuring that questions regarding the accuracy of the data, the integrity of the research, and the validity of the article's content are handled responsibly.
4. Fairness and appreciation of contributions
All individuals who meet the criteria for authorship should receive appropriate recognition. Conversely, individuals who do not meet these criteria should not be listed as authors simply because of their position or particular interests.
5. Academic integrity
Authorship should be free from manipulation, falsification of contributions, inclusion of names without adequate contributions, and omission of names of individuals who deserve recognition.
Eligibility Criteria as an Author
A person can be listed as an author of an article in the Jurnal Manajemen Pendidikan Islam Darussalam (JMPID) if they meet all of the following criteria.
a. Substantive contribution to research or scientific work
The individual makes a significant contribution to one or more of the following aspects:
1. Formulation of ideas, research problems, objectives, and research questions.
2. Development of a conceptual framework, theory, or analysis model.
3. Design of research methodology, instruments, and data collection procedures.
4. Implementation of research, data collection, or field documentation.
5. Processing, analysis, interpretation, and synthesis of data or literature.
6. Development of scientific concepts, arguments, or recommendations that form the main substance of the article. In the context of Islamic Education Management, these contributions may include research on madrasah principal leadership, curriculum management, Islamic boarding school governance, educational human resource management, quality assurance, Islamic education financing, academic supervision, and the development of Islamic education institutions.
b. Involvement in substantial writing or review The individual is involved in drafting the manuscript or conducting a critical review of the intellectual substance of the article. This contribution may include drafting the introduction, theoretical review, methodology, results and discussion, conclusions, or substantive revision of the scientific argument. Activities that involve only grammar checking, translation, technical editing, formatting, or typographical correction do not, by themselves, meet this criterion.
c. Approval of the final manuscript Each author must read and approve the final version of the manuscript to be published. This approval should include the content of the article, the identities and affiliations of the authors, the order of authorship, the declaration of contributions, and the disclosure of any relevant conflicts of interest. d. Willingness to be accountable for the integrity of the work Each author must be willing to be accountable for his or her contributions, cooperate with any investigation into alleged misconduct or ethical violations, and help ensure that concerns about the accuracy and integrity of the article are appropriately addressed. These four criteria must be met cumulatively. Individuals who only partially meet the criteria should be given a reasonable opportunity to be involved in the writing or substantive review and approval of the final manuscript if their initial contribution meets the criteria for authorship.
Authorship Requirements Based on Article Type
Authorship criteria apply to all types of manuscripts published by the Jurnal Manajemen Pendidikan Islam Darussalam (JMPID), taking into account the characteristics of each work.
a. Empirical research articles
Authors can contribute to the formulation of the problem, research design, data collection, analysis, interpretation of results, as well as writing and reviewing the manuscript.
b. Conceptual or theoretical study articles Authors can contribute to the formulation of ideas, literature searches, theory synthesis, development of conceptual frameworks, critical analysis, and the preparation of scientific arguments.
c. Literature review articles or literature reviews Authors can contribute to determining the source search strategy, selection and evaluation of literature, synthesis of findings, analysis of research gaps, and writing the results of the study.
d. Collaborative research-based articles Each team member must have a contribution that can be explained and meets all authorship criteria. Participation in a research team does not automatically make someone an author.
Main Author, Co-Authors, and Corresponding Author
a. First Author The first author is the individual who is placed first by agreement of all authors. The first author generally makes a major contribution to the implementation of the research or development of the idea and the preparation of the article. The determination of the first author should be based on real contributions, not solely on position or seniority.
b. Co-author A co-author is an individual who meets all the criteria for authorship and makes a substantive contribution to the article. All co-authors have academic responsibility for the integrity of the publication according to their respective contributions.
c. Corresponding Author The corresponding author is the party responsible for being the main liaison between the author and the editor during the submission, review, revision, and publication process of the article. His/her responsibilities include:
- Ensuring that all authors have agreed to the submission of the manuscript.
- Accurately conveying authorship and affiliation information.
- Uploading documents and statements required by the journal.
- Communicating editor and reviewer comments to the co-authors.
- Coordinating revisions and ensuring approval of the final manuscript.
- Respond to post-publication editor inquiries if necessary.
- Ensure that authorship changes have been agreed upon by the relevant parties. The corresponding author is not automatically the primary author. Both roles can be played by the same person or by different people.
Determining the Order of Authors
The order of authors is determined by mutual agreement, taking into account the extent of each individual's intellectual contribution and responsibility.
All authors must agree on the order of names before submitting the manuscript to the Jurnal Manajemen Pendidikan Islam Darussalam (JMPID). Differences in contribution and order of authorship should be discussed from the research planning or article writing stage.
The journal does not stipulate that supervisors, heads of institutions, principals, heads of madrasas, heads of Islamic boarding schools, or structural officials must be placed as the first or last author. These positions cannot be used as the sole basis for obtaining author status. If there is a dispute regarding the order of names, the authors are expected to resolve it through deliberation based on accountable contributions.
Authorship in Lecturer and Student Research
In articles originating from undergraduate theses, dissertations, class research, field research, or student academic projects, the determination of authorship must be based on the actual contributions of each individual. Students who produce research and meet the criteria for authorship are entitled to recognition as authors. Supervisors may be listed as co-authors if they provide substantive contributions, are involved in writing or critical review, approve the final manuscript, and are willing to be responsible for the integrity of the article. Status as a supervisor, examiner, promoter, or supervisor does not automatically grant authorship rights. Conversely, student contributions should not be ignored simply because the research is conducted within an academic supervision relationship. This provision also applies to research involving teachers, school principals, madrasah heads, Islamic boarding school managers, education personnel, or other research partners.
Contributors Who Do Not Meet the Criteria for Authorship
Individuals who provide assistance but do not meet all the criteria for authorship may receive recognition in the Acknowledgements section, provided their contributions are relevant and their name is approved for inclusion. Contributions that may be acknowledged through acknowledgments include:
- Provision of research facilities or administrative access.
- Technical assistance in data collection without other substantive intellectual contributions.
- Language editing, translation, or proofreading.
- Funding support or facilitation of research activities.
- Administrative assistance and coordination of activities.
- Provision of general input that does not amount to an intellectual contribution for authorship. Acknowledgments should not be used to avoid authorship of individuals who actually meet all the criteria.
Prohibition of Unethical Authorship Practices
The Jurnal Manajemen Pendidikan Islam Darussalam (JMPID) prohibits authorship practices that are contrary to academic integrity, including:
a. Gift authorship or guest authorshipInclusion of the name of an individual who does not provide a substantive contribution or does not meet the criteria for authorship, for example solely because of position, seniority, or personal relationship.
b. Ghost authorshipOmitting the name of an individual who provides a substantive contribution and meets the criteria for authorship without a justifiable reason.
c. Honorary authorshipGranting author status as a form of respect, reward, or certain interests without fulfilling the requirements for authorship.
d. Paid authorshipAccepting or purchasing a position as an author without real scientific contribution. Payment for legitimate technical services is not in itself a violation, as long as it is not used to trade authorship status or manipulate contribution information.
e. Manipulation of author orderUnilaterally changing the order of names or placing someone in a certain position that does not correspond to the agreement and actual contribution.
f. Submission of a manuscript without the consent of a co-authorSubmission or publication of a manuscript with the name of a person included without their consent and without ensuring that the person knows and approves the final version of the article.
Author Contribution Statement
The Jurnal Manajemen Pendidikan Islam Darussalam (JMPID) may request authors to submit a contribution statement upon manuscript submission. The statement should describe the actual contributions of each author and should not be made solely to fulfill administrative requirements.
To increase transparency, the journal may use the CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy) taxonomy or an equivalent contribution format appropriate to the characteristics of the article. The contribution categories that can be used include:
- Conceptualization — formulation of research ideas or concepts.
- Methodology — development of the methodology.
- Investigation — implementation of research and data collection.
- Data curation — management and preparation of data.
- Formal analysis — formal analysis of data or information.
- Writing – original draft — preparation of the initial draft of the article.
- Writing – review & editing — critical review and substantive editing.
- Supervision — intellectual supervision of the research.
- Project administration — administrative management of the research project.
- Resources — provision of research resources. This list is a means of explaining contributions, not a substitute for the four main criteria of authorship. Roles such as supervision, administration, or provision of resources alone do not automatically make someone a writer.
Use of Artificial Intelligence in Writing Articles
The use of artificial intelligence (AI), including generative language models, must be carried out responsibly and must not reduce scientific integrity. The provisions of the Jurnal Manajemen Pendidikan Islam Darussalam (JMPID) are as follows:
1. AI cannot be listed as an author or co-author because it cannot carry out the responsibility and accountability of authorship.
2. Human authors remain responsible for the accuracy, originality, validity, and integrity of the entire contents of the manuscript.
3. The use of relevant and substantive AI in the preparation of the manuscript, data analysis, image creation, or research process must be disclosed in accordance with the journal's AI use policy.
4. Authors are required to check the accuracy of information, references, citations, data, and AI output before including them in the manuscript.
5. Authors are prohibited from using AI to create false data, fictitious references, research results that have never been conducted, or misleading authorship information.
6. The use of language tools or software does not transfer academic responsibility from the author to the provider of the tool. Disclosure of the use of AI is made in the section specified by the journal, for example, a statement of use of AI, research methods, or acknowledgements, according to the type of use.
Post-Submission Authorship
Changes, additions, or deletions of authors, as well as changes to the authorship order after submission must be clearly justified. Requests for changes must be submitted in writing to the editor, explaining the reasons for the change. The journal may request written approval from all listed authors, including those to be added or removed.
The editor will assess the completeness of the explanation and evidence of approval before deciding whether the change is acceptable. Authorship changes should not be made solely to gain academic advantage, avoid responsibility, or manipulate the publication record. If changes are requested after the article is published, the journal will consider the need for publication corrections and apply relevant editorial procedures.
Handling Disputes and Alleged Authorship Violations
If there is a complaint or alleged violation of the authorship criteria, the editor of the Jurnal Manajemen Pendidikan Islam Darussalam (JMPID) will conduct an objective initial examination, maintain the confidentiality of relevant information, and provide an opportunity for related parties to provide clarification.
Handling steps may include:
- Requesting a written explanation from the main author, the corresponding author, and the party submitting the objection.
- Examining the contribution statement, correspondence, revision history, and other supporting documents.
- Requesting additional clarification if the available information is insufficient.
- Deferring an editorial decision or publication if the dispute has the potential to affect the validity of the authorship.
- Recommending resolution through the home institution or the institution where the research was conducted if the dispute cannot be resolved by the authors.
- Taking proportionate editorial action based on the results of the examination and the journal's publication ethics policy. Editorial action may include a request for clarification, a postponement of publication, a rejection of the manuscript, a correction of authorship information, or other post-publication actions according to the results of the examination and the level of the violation. The journal will not designate someone as a violator based solely on allegations without adequate examination. Disputes requiring institutional investigation will be referred to the appropriate institution. This procedure is implemented with due regard for the principles of fairness, objectivity, confidentiality, and protection of the integrity of publications.

The author also states his willingness to provide clarification and supporting evidence if necessary during editorial review. The journal has the right to take action in accordance with editorial policies and publication ethics if incorrect authorship information or violations of these provisions are found.
