Abstract

Learning to memorize the Qur'an in Islamic boarding schools faces a number of classic problems: a manual memorization system, slow monitoring of students' progress, minimal incremental rewards for gradual achievements, and a decline in students' fluctuating motivation. This study aims to: 1) analyze the need for a leaderboard in learning to memorize the Qur'an in Islamic boarding schools, and 2) develop its conceptual design. The approach used is descriptive-qualitative with a literature review design using content analysis techniques that follow the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldana with 1) data condensation, 2) data presentation, 3) drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that the need for a leaderboard includes functional needs (macro-micro layered rankings, automatic updates, achievement history, badges, and memorization targets) and non-functional needs (ease of use, transparency, fairness, compliance with Islamic ethics, and responsive display). The resulting conceptual design integrates seven core components with a composite scoring mechanism based on five indicators (memorization enhancement, fluency, tajw?d, attendance of deposits, and consistency of muraja'ah) and a six-stage closed-loop workflow. This design is based on five principles: increasing intrinsic motivation, healthy competition, collaboration, Islamic values, and sportsmanship. This research contributes a conceptual framework for a leaderboard that is sensitive to the context of Islamic education and can serve as a basis for developing functional applications in Islamic boarding schools.
